Howard “Howie” F. Johnson, age 103, of Chisago City, Minnesota, passed away Saturday, August 10, 2024 at Parmly on the Lake.
Howard was born on April 30, 1921 to Alfred and Mabel (Swanson) Johnson at home in North Branch, Minnesota. Howie was raised in North Branch and lived his adult life in Lindstrom and Chisago City. Howie enlisted in the US Navy in 1943, serving in WWII and being honorably discharged in 1946.
After his military services, Howie attended college at Gustavus Adolphus College and graduated from the St. Paul College of Law (William Mitchell College of Law). Once Howie finished college, he returned home and served as Chisago County Attorney for 17 years and conducted a law practice for several years in and around the surrounding counties.
Howie was a life-long member of Chisago Lake Lutheran church, as were his parents and grandparents and he took great pride in being a member. Other big parts in his life were being on the golf course, listening to music and time with his family. Howie will be missed by many.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff at Parmly on the Lake and hospice for their great care of Howie. Memorials preferred to Chisago Lake Lutheran Church.
Howie is survived by his son Kent (Janet); grandchildren, Sarah, Megan, Kate (Christian); great grandson, James; sister Shirley; nieces, nephews and extended family.
Howie is preceded in death by his parents; wife Marlys; son, Gregg and daughter Gail; brother Newt and sister Audrey.
Celebration of life will be held, 11 am, Friday, August 16, 2024 at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church, Center City, with a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, North Branch, MN. Arrangements are with Grandstrand Funeral Home, Lindstrom. Condolences may be expressed online at www.grandstrandfh.com.
