Annika Hall and Kaia Osmundson have formed quite the dynamic duo for Chisago Lakes athletics.
After the pair teamed up for great finishes in the 2023 cross country season, they both made it to the state track and field meet in the spring. Now, back in the fall season, the two – Osmundson now a senior and Hall a freshman – are picking up where they left off, which is dominating their respective sport.
Hall crushed the field in the Apollo Early Bird Cross Country Invite in St. Cloud on Saturday, August 24, winning the season opening meet with a time of 19:29.87. Osmundson was comfortably in second place with a time of 19:49.99.
The pair were the only runners to break 20 minutes, as Zili Lenzer of St. Cloud Apollo came in third with a time of 20:01.79, and then no one else came in until near the 22 minute mark.
Hall and Osmundson’s pace blistered the rest of the field, but then a trio of Wildcats stuck together and finished sixth through eighth to wrap up a dominating team win for CL. Junior Lauren Kowarsch came in sixth place with a time of 22:36.21, and freshmen Arianna Husfeldt and Averiana Gellerman finished in 22:38.10 and 23:09.60, respectively, to come in seventh and eighth place.
The ‘Cats compiled 24 points as a team, with the Sartell Sabers coming in second place with 48 points. Apollo rounded out the top three with 69 points.
On the boys’ side of the race, the Wildcats had a good showing and certainly competed for the top spot, but just missed out. Kaden Osmundson and Remy Larsen paced the ‘Cats as Osmundson, a junior, came in fourth place with a time of 17:54.69. Larsen, who is only a sophomore, finished in 18:11.31 to come in sixth place.
Junior Nolan Levasseur, sophomore Cian O’Halloran and junior Gavin Harrer finished up the varsity scoring for CL, with Levesseur coming in 11th, O’Halloran coming in 14th and Harrer in 19th place.
Sartell ended up winning the meet with 45 points, but CL was only nine points behind with 54 points in second place. St. Cloud Tech finished in third with 72 points.
