NB starts 0-2 vs section teams
The Vikings boys’ basketball team suffered two lopsided losses at the hands of Cloquet and Duluth Denfeld to open their season last week.
The Lumberjacks ambushed North Branch in the first half on Tuesday, December 3, jumping out to a 32-15 lead before cruising to a 30 point win at 76-46.
Only Jacob Knoespel scored in double figures for the Vikings, netting 10 points. Ethan Thorsen had nine, Dooley Beaver had eight and Tyler Minke scored six. Cloquet got 28 points from Jack Battaglia.
Things didn’t improve much in the Vikings’ second game of the year on Friday, December 6.
North Branch again found itself down big early, with the Hunters building a 40-26 lead at the break and only adding on in the second half.
Minke scored 20 points for the Vikings in this one, and Thorsen added 12. Vinny Dufeck netted seven for North Branch in the loss.
The Vikings will jump right into conference play this week, with away games against Big Lake on Friday, December 13 and Chisago Lakes on Thursday, December 19. Sandwiched in between is a home game against Becker on Tuesday, December 17.
