‘Cats come back versus Pine City
Chisago Lakes 6, Pine City 4
Trailing 3-1 early in the second period against Pine City, the Wildcats scored five unanswered goals and went on to snuff out the Dragons 6-4 Tuesday, December 10 at Chisago Lakes Arena. Playmaker Landon Kerkow led the way for the Wildcats with four assists. The Wildcats dominated play for most of the game, outshooting Pine City 39-19.
Pine City got on the scoreboard midway through the first period. Austin Slettom scored with four minutes left in the first period, assisted by Jacob Kletti and Landon Kerkow, and the game was tied 1-1 going into the first intermission. The second period turned out to be a scoring fest. The Dragons scored twice in the first five minutes. But the Wildcats responded with four straight in the span of a little over six minutes, to the delight of the home crowd. Quin Ryan started the streak with a goal at 6:52, with the assists going to Max Koch and Colton Whiterabbit. Ben Kerkow scored to tie it up a little less than three minutes later, assisted by Landon Kerkow. At 12:38, Slettom scored his second goal of the game, assisted by both Kerkows, and the Wildcats led 4-3. Not to be outdone, Ben Kerkow put another one in the back of the net just 32 seconds later, assisted by Koch and Landon Kerkow, and the Wildcats led 5-3 after two periods. Three minutes into the third period, Koch scored the Wildcats’ fifth straight goal, with the assists going to Whiterabbit and Ryan, to give the Wildcats a three-goal cushion. Pine City creeped a little closer with a goal just two minutes later, but the Wildcats shut the door after that and came away with a 6-4 win.
Things got heated near the end of the game, and after breaking things up the referees handed out six roughing minors – three to each team – with 47 seconds remaining.
Gentry Academy 8, Chisago Lakes 2
A hat trick by Ryland Rooney led the way as the Gentry Academy Stars crushed the Wildcats 8-2 on Thursday, December 12 at Chisago Lakes Arena. The Stars outshot the Wildcats 44-33 for the game.
After the Stars took an early 1-0 lead, Lucas Ide scored to tie it up midway through the first period, assisted by Max Bobrowski. Gentry Academy scored to retake the lead 90 seconds into the second period, and two minutes later, the Wildcats again responded. This time, Cooper Toepper put one in the back of the net, with assists going to Landon Kerkow and Ide, tying the game at 2-2. But it was all Stars after that, as they scored six straight – including a shorthanded goal when they were trying to kill off a 5-on-3 – and went on to beat the Wildcats 8-2.
