County gets award from state group
Chisago County has been chosen to receive the Outstanding Economic Development Award by an affiliate of the Association of Minnesota Counties (AMC). County Board accepted the honor at the recent AMC conference. The county’s role in coordinating a day of career exploration in manufacturing was described as creating a “meaningful and impact ful project” in the eyes of professional county economic developers judging the nominees. The committee was impressed by this “hyper-local” approach to collaborative and effective use of community assets, according to the MAPCED.
Manufacturing Day is for older Chisago-area students who choose to participate. Buses deliver them to manufacturing businesses who open their doors and give tours, take questions and even allow some hands-on exposure to those interested in pursuing a career in the manufacturing sector. The group meets at the Split Rocks banquet room, in Wyoming for refreshments, speakers and presentations.
