The world lost our beloved mother, Laurie Ann Hastings on Dec 11, 2024, at the age of 90. Laurie passed away peacefully surrounded by her children. Laurie was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Aug 8, 1934. Her family eventually bought a farm and settled in Almelund, Minnesota. She was a graduate of Taylors Falls High School. 

Laurie was an avid gardener whose flower gardens were her pride and joy. She was also an avid baker. She loved feeding birds, and her favorite was cardinals. Laurie worked as a Medical Records secretary for many years at the Margaret S. Parmly nursing home. After retirement she volunteered for the Grandma program at the primary school in Chisago City where she enjoyed helping children in arithmetic and reading skills.

Preceded in death by her father David Westlund, mother Isobel Fossen, first husband John (Roy) Carlson, second husband James Hastings, brothers Dale and John Westlund, sister Joanne Peterson and granddaughter Amber Carlson.

 Survived by daughter Wendi Carlson, sons Peter (Cris) Carlson, Dan (Annette) Carlson, Steve (Julie) Carlson, Tim (Cynthia) Carlson; grandchildren Matt, Lauren, Charlie, John, Michael, Brandon, Matt, Aaron, Jacob, Jena, Nathan, Kailee, Jenae; 11 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Foundation. A Celebration of Life will be at Zion Lutheran Church in Chisago City on Feb. 22 from 2-4 p.m.
