Chisago Lakes 3, Moose Lake 1

The Wildcats went two for three on the power play and stayed out of the penalty box themselves as they beat the Moose Lake Rebels 3-1 Tuesday, December 10 at Riverside Ice Arena in Moose Lake.  The Wildcats outshot the Rebels 33-18 for the game, and Wildcat goalie Evi Reedy stopped 17 of the 18 shots she faced to pick up the win.

All the scoring in the game came late in each period.  Nora DeVries got the Wildcats on the board with a power play goal at 12:13 of the first period, assisted by Lexi Smothers.  The Rebels responded almost exactly two minutes later, and the teams went into the first intermission tied at 1-1.  It looked like the score would be the same after two periods, but Allie Smothers scored with 17 seconds left in the period, assisted by Naomi Eaton and Lauren Schmidt, to give the Wildcats a 2-1 lead.  Moose Lake kept it within a goal for most of the third period but took an interference penalty with 58 seconds left in the game.  Joee Westland scored her first goal of the season, with the single assist going to Schmidt, just five seconds after the penalty was assessed to seal the 3-1 win for the Wildcats.

Forest Lake 3, Chisago Lakes 0

The difference in the Wildcats’ 3-0 shutout loss to the Forest Lake Rangers came down to goaltending.  The teams were nearly even in shots on goal, with the Wildcats outshooting the Rangers 30-29 and both teams tallying exactly the same number of shots in the second and third periods.  Wildcat goalie Evi Reedy didn’t have a bad game, allowing three goals on 29 shots.  But Ranger goalie Taylor Thompson stopped all 30 shots she faced to earn a shutout.

Hockey Hullaballoo

The Wildcats (4-6-0) will play their first game at home in over a month when they welcome the Rogers Royals to Chisago Lakes Arena at 7 p.m. tonight.  On Saturday, the Hudson Raiders will venture out of Cheeseland to visit Lindstrom for a 3 p.m. matinee.
