Lucas (Luke) Thomas Manthey, age 47, passed peacefully on December 13, 2024, at his group home in North Branch, Minnesota. He was born on February 19, 1977 in Minneapolis to parents Tom and Cathie Manthey.
Luke was a cherished son, brother, nephew, uncle and friend. He lived with his parents until 2007, after which he moved to North Branch, where he spent the next 17 years at Mains’l Group Home. Luke graduated from Centennial High School and White Bear Lake 916 in 1999. He was actively involved in various achievement programs, including Rise, Chisago Lakes Achievement Center and WBL 916, and found great joy in participating in Special Olympics, where he won medals in bocce ball, bowling, and cornhole.
Luke had a love for all animals, fishing with his parents, and an eclectic taste in music and movies—especially horror films. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing Uno, working on puzzles, coloring, and indulging in Oreo blizzards at Dairy Queen. His gentle and joyful spirit touched everyone he met; his family and friends will forever treasure the time spent with him.
Luke was preceded in death by his grandparents Stanley and Barbara Manthey, Dick and Dorothy Pulkka, Dee and Jack Harris, as well as his uncles Rusty and Jimmer Pulkka and Aunt Doris Krog. He is survived by his parents, Cathie and Tom Manthey of Harris, MN; his sister Nicole Manthey (Josh Nase); nephews Adam and Benjamin of Rush City, MN; and many uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.
Luke’s family expresses their heartfelt thanks to Mains’l Group Home, Provide Care, and St. Croix Hospice for their compassionate and loving care throughout the years.
Lucas will be deeply missed by all who knew him. We love you, “Cool Hand Luke.”
