Chisago Lakes 5, Northern Tier 1
The Wildcats embraced the concept of spreading the score around in their game against the Northern Tier Stars last Tuesday, January 23. Five different players scored goals as the Wildcats beat the Stars 5-1. The game was played at East Bethel Ice Arena.
Three-and-a-half minutes into the game, the Wildcats were already up 2-0. Ella Perreault scored at 1:24, assisted by Nora DeVries. And just over two minutes later, Lauran Scmidt put one in the back of the net, with Allison Smothers picking up the single assist. Brooke Klemz scored midway through the second period, with the assist going to Lexi Smothers, to make the score 3-0 Northern Tier scored at 9:20 of the third period to cut the Wildcat lead to 3-1. But the Wildcats allowed just four shots on goal in the third period, so the Stars’ potential rally was destined to fall short. DeVries scored an unassisted goal at 12:32, and Aly Vogelsang added a goal with three minutes to go in the game, assisted by Klemz, to make the final score 5-1.
Goaltending made a significant difference in this game. The Wildcats outshot Northern Tier 23-19. Wildcat goalie Breanna Ritter stopped 18 of the 19 shots she faced to pick up the win.
C-E-C 4, Chisago Lakes, 2
The C-E-C Lumberjacks broke open a tie game with two goals early in the third period and beat the Wildcats 4-2 last Friday, January 26 at the Cloquet Area Recreation Center. The Wildcats outshot the Lumberjacks 24-20 for the game.
Penalties got the Wildcats in trouble in the first two periods. They took a checking penalty just 47 seconds into the first period, and C-E-C scored a power play goal at 1:32 to go up 1-0. Lauren Schmidt answered with a goal for the Wildcats just 90 seconds later, assisted by Joee Westland and Ella Perreault, to tie the game at 1-1. Almost exactly halfway through the second period, the Wildcats took two hooking penalties three seconds apart. With a five-on-three advantage, it took the Lumberjacks just 30 seconds to score and re-take the lead. Schmidt again responded with a goal 90 seconds later to tie the game and was again assisted by Perreault and Westland. But C-E-C put two pucks in the back of the net in the first five minutes of the third period and held off the Wildcats to claim the victory.

Sophomore Ella Perreault leads the Wildcats in scoring, with 20 goals and nine assists for 29 points.
Tomorrow night, the Wildcats (9-15-0) will finish out the regular season with a game against the St. Paul/Two Rivers Riveters at West St. Paul Arena at 7 p.m.
