Ronold Lind

Ronold Oliver John Lind, age 89, of Wyoming MN, passed away on February 1, 2024 in the comfort of his home with family by his side.  He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

Ron was born in a parsonage on June 1, 1934 in Harris, Minnesota to Oliver John and Margarethe Lind.  He played baseball and was an all-district basketball player at Chisago City High School.  He graduated in the class of 1952, and it was there that he met the love of his life, Barbara Savage.

After he served in the U.S. Army, Ron and Barb were married in 1956.  They then made their home in Wyoming, MN, where they raised their son and daughter.  Ron had a lifelong career as a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in the Wyoming/Rush City/Stacy area.

Ron coached basketball and baseball in the Wyoming area for many years.  He loved being outdoors, hunting, trapping, and spending time at the family cabin near Two Harbors.  He played guitar for most of his life, often playing at family events, with the “Guitar Guys” at Wyoming Methodist Church, and with his grandson.  He also loved to golf, and was a founding member of Falcon Ridge Golf Course.  He was always finding balls that others had lost, cleaning them up, and marking them with an “L” for Lind.  He loved to garage sale with his wife and family, and was always on the lookout for new treasures and opportunities to negotiate a good deal.  Lunch at a local café was usually a part of the outing.  He was always reading a western, usually by Louis L’amour.  He had a sweet tooth like no other, with his favorite treat being a double-stuffed Oreo.

But most of all, he loved his family.  His life touched more in our community than he likely ever knew, through coaching, endless joking, and willingness to lend a helping hand.

He is preceded in death by his parents Oliver and Margarethe; infant son Ronold; sisters Sonia (Dean) Hubbard and Dawna (Punky) Videen; brother-in-law Denny Zimmerman; cousins and friends.

Ron is survived by his wife of 67 years Barbara Lind; son Thomas Lind; daughter Catherine (Rick) Gonzalez; sister Janet Zimmerman; grandson Mark Ostlund; granddaughters Miranda (Paul) Olson and Lisa (Robert) Douglass; great-grandson Hans; great-granddaughters Natalie and Samantha; cousins; nieces; nephews; and friends.

A celebration of Ron’s life will be held at Wyoming Methodist Church on Saturday, February 17, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m.  Burial at Wyoming Methodist Cemetery will follow.  Visit mattsonfuneralhome.com for more information.
