Chisago Lakes will be sending 10 swimmers and divers to the state meet this weekend after a wildly successful Section 4A meet at John Glen Middle School in Maplewood.

Three relay teams, one individual swimmer and two divers are making the trek, a feat made even more impressive by the fact that Chisago Lakes shares a section with perennial state powerhouse St. Thomas Academy.

The 4x400 relay team of Riley Solberg, Hank Peterson, Jackson Cunningham and Nate Bear finished in second place in their event to punch a ticket to the state meet.

In the 4x200 relay, Bear teamed up with Charlie Sprado, Tanner Betts and Vince Adams to claim their spot in the big tournament after a third place finish.

And the medley relay team of Betts, Cunningham, Adams and Sprado also claimed second place, which got them into the state tourney.

Adams also qualified on his own with a great swim in the 100 butterfly. He finished in third place with an automatic qualifying time of 54.44 seconds.

In diving, the strong Chisago Lakes tradition continued with new blood. Eighth graders Austin Warner and Talan Koester-Radmann  finished in third and fourth place, respectively, to punch their tickets to state.

The divers will take to the board for prelims on Thursday, February 29 at noon, with semifinals and finals on Saturday, March 2 at noon.

For the swimmers, they’ll hop in the pool at noon on Friday, March 1. If they make the top eight, they’ll swim in the championship rounds on Saturday at noon. If they are top 16, they’ll be in the consolation rounds at the same time.
