Girls narrowly lose to ER & PC
Elk River 3, Chisago Lakes 2
Abby Hansberger scored a power play goal with three minutes to go in the game to give the Elk River Elks a 3-2 win over the Wildcats on Tuesday, January 4 at Furniture and Things Community Event Center in Elk River.
The Elks got on the board with just under five minutes to go in the first period. Joee Westland scored for the Wildcats, assisted by Brooke Klemz, at 15:41 of the first period to tie the game at 1-1. Ella Perreault put one in the back of the net to give the Wildcats the lead seven minutes into the second period, with Allison Smothers picking up the assist. Elk River scored late in the period to tie it at 2-2, and the game was decided in the third period on Hansberger’s goal. The Elks outshot the Wildcats 36-25 for the game. Wildcat goalie Breanna Ritter stopped 33 of the 36 shots she faced.
Pine City 3, Chisago Lakes 2
Despite dominating play, the Wildcats s struggled to score and lost to the Pine City Dragons 3-2 on Thursday, January 4 at the Pine City Civic Center. The Wildcats outshot the Dragons 27-16 for the game.
Alyson Vogelsang got the Wildcats on the board at 1:38 of the second period, assisted by Brooke Klemz and Seanna Ritter. But Pine City scored three straight goals between the middle of the second period and the middle of the third period to take a 3-1 lead. Nora DeVries got one past the Dragon goalie at 10:44 of the third period, with Camryn Hinsch picking up the assist, to pull the Wildcats within one. But the Dragons hung on for the last six minutes of the game and came away with the win.
Dodge County 8, Chisago Lakes 2
The Dodge County Wildcats broke a 2-2 tie with five goals in the second period and went on to beat Chisago Lakes 8-2 on Friday, January 5 at the Dodge County Ice Arena. Seanna Ritter scored for Chisago Lakes at 6:10 of the first period, assisted by Alyson Vogelsang and Brooke Klemz, to tie the game at 1-1. Dodge County scored just 50 seconds later to re-take the lead. Camryn Hinsch tied the game with seven minutes to go in the period, with the assists going to Ella Perreault and Nora DeVries. But that was it for Chisago Lakes before Dodge County’s second period onslaught decided the outcome.
Hockey Hullaballoo
Tonight’s game against the Proctor/Hermantown Mirage at 7 p.m. at the Hermantown Hockey Arena will be the eighth in a row for the Wildcats (7-10-0) away from Chisago Lakes Arena. And next Tuesday, January 16, the Wildcats will take on the ninth-ranked South St. Paul Packers at Doug Woog Arena in South St. Paul at 7 p.m.
