Losses continue to pile up for Edge
Becker/Big Lake 4, Northern Edge 0
The Becker/Big Lake Eagles scored three goals in the third period to break open a close, intense game, shutting out the Northern Edge 4-0 on Thursday, January 4 at East Bethel Ice Arena. The game featured roughing minors and a few other penalties of aggression, setting the stage for an intense rematch four weeks from now at the Eagles’ home rink in Princeton.
River Lakes 5, Northern Edge 2
The Northern Edge led 2-0 after the first period and looked like they might be on their way to their first win of the season. But the River Lakes Stars scored five straight goals in the second and third periods to beat the Edge 5-2, handing the Edge their tenth loss of the season. The Stars outshot the Edge 55-12 for the game, holding the Edge to just five total shots in the last two periods of the game.
Northern Edge 3, Mora/Milaca 2
Winless Northern Edge finally got the monkey off their collective back, picking up their first win of the season. Tyler Pearson scored the game-winner with just under two minutes remaining in the third period to give the Edge a 3-2 win over the alliterative Mora/Milaca Mustangs on Tuesday, January 9 at the Mora Civic Center. Lavonte Fisher and Justin Christenson picked up the assists on Pearson’s goal.
Fisher scored for the Edge midway through the second period to tie the game at 1-1, assisted by Zach Monson. The Mustangs scored a few minutes later to take a 2-1 lead. Christenson got one past the Mora goalie at 10:53 of the third period to tie the game at 2-2, assisted by Matthew Wolters and Pearson, setting the stage for Pearson’s game winner.
Hockey Hullaballoo
The Edge (1-10-1) will try to double their win total tonight as they take on the Pine City Dragons at the Pine City Civic Center at 7 p.m. On Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m., the Edge will play the Sauk Rapids-Rice Storm at Sports Arena East in Sauk Rapids. And the Edge will return home next Tuesday, January 16 to battle the Princeton Tigers at East Bethel Ice Arena at 7 p.m.
