North Branch scoring points vs top teams, but still short
St. Francis Triangular
The Vikings lost both of their duals in the St. Francis Triangular last Thursday, January 4. They fell to Big Lake 47-30 and succumbed to St. Francis 45-24. Evan Pommier (152) and Karson Gariepy (215) were the only Vikings to win both of their matches.
Jack Baker (114) had a rare two-loss day at St. Francis. He was pinned by Kale Westgaard of Big Lake at 1:23. Westgaard is ranked seventh in Class AA at 107 pounds. Baker was also major-decisioned by Ashton Charmoli of St. Francis.
Pommier pinned Zahary Dehmer of Big Lake at 1:15 in his first match and won by a 5-0 decision over William Romero of St. Francis. Gariepy pinned Jose Acuna of Big Lakes at exactly the one-minute mark of their match, and he won by forfeit against St. Francis.
Wrestling Whangdoodles
The Vikings have rescheduled their dual meet against Washington Technology Magnet School, and they will now be wrestling tonight at home at 5 p.m. On Saturday, they will head to the 15-team St. Croix Lutheran Invitational, which gets underway at 9 a.m.
