Chisago Girls hockey slips after huge win over Princeton
Chisago Lakes 11, Princeton/Big Lake/Becker 1
Wildcat sophomore sensation Ella Perreault didn’t just score a hat trick against the Princeton/Big Lake/Becker Tigers on Tuesday, January 9. She scored what amounted to a double hat trick – six goals, including five goals in a ten-minute span in the first period, as the Wildcats crushed the overwhelmed Princeton/Big Lake/Becker Tigers 11-1 on Tuesday, January 9 at Princeton First Bank and Trust Ice Arena.
The Wildcats were already up 2-0 on goals by Allison Smothers and Brooke Klemz when Perreault began her scoring binge with an even strength goal at the 5:04 mark. She then scored three straight power play goals in the span of about three minutes, including two after a Tiger player received a five-minute major for checking from behind. She added her fifth goal of the period at 14:53, and the Wildcats led 7-0 after one period. The Wildcats outshot the Tigers 27-1 in the first period.
After Klemz scored early in the second period, Perreault added her sixth goal of the game. Kali Hanson and Lexi Smothers rounded out the goal scoring in the third period, as the Wildcats outshot the Tigers 52-13 for the game. Lauren Schmidt had four assists for the game, and Allison Smothers had three. Five other players each picked up an assist – Lexi Smothers, Gwynneth Jacobson, Joee Westland, Olivia Rambosek and Perreault.
Perreault, who led the Wildcats in scoring as a freshman last year with 25 goals and 12 assists for 35 points, currently leads the Wildcats in scoring with 18 goals and eight assists for 26 points.
Proctor/Hermantown 6, Chisago Lakes 2
In a penalty-fest, Proctor/Hermantown’s Mya Gunderson scored a hat trick to lead the Mirage to a 6-2 win over the Wildcats last Thursday, January 11 at Hermantown Hockey Arena. The teams combined for sixteen penalties, including nine in a third period that saw both teams at full strength for only one minute after the 6:09 mark. And despite all the power plays, the teams only scored one power play goal each.
Aly Vogelsang got the Wildcats on the scoreboard at 10:24 of the first period, assisted by Lexi Smothers and Nora DeVries. But the Mirage answered just sixteen seconds later and took the lead with another tally at 13:14. The Mirage scored three unanswered goals in the second period to put the game out of reach. Ella Perreault scored on a power play in the third period, assisted by Brooke Klemz, and the Mirage added a power play of their own later in the period to make the final score 6-2. The Mirage outshot the Wildcats 36-22 for the game.
