Offensive explosion leads to a split for Wildcat hockey
Chisago Lakes 5, Cambridge-Isanti 4
Max Bobrowski completed his first career hat trick with a goal at 4:40 of overtime to give the Wildcats a 5-4 win over the Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets Tuesday, January 16 at Chisago Lakes Arena. Jack Bakken was involved in all five Wildcat goals, with two goals and three assists. And Ben Kerkow ad three assists of his own.
Bakken got the Wildcats on the board three minutes into the first period, assisted by Max Koch and Kerkow. At 13:08 of the period, Bakken’s power play goal made the score 2-0. Joe Alexander and Kerkow got the assists. But the Bluejackets responded with a power play goal of their own less than a minute later to cut the Wildcat lead to 2-1. Cambridge scored again ay 7:42 of the second period to tie the game at 2-2. Less than a minute later, the Wildcats took the lead back on Bobrowski’s first goal, with the assists going to Kerkow and Bakken. Cambridge tied the game again at 11:37, but exactly 100 seconds later Bobrowski scored to put the Wildcats back on top 4-3, assisted by Nolan Purdy and Bakken. The Bluejackets scored midway through the third period to tie it up, setting the stage for Bobrowski’s overtime heroics, assisted by Bakken and Purdy.
Monticello 7, Chisago Lakes 6
The Wildcats played their second overtime game in a row but came out on the losing end this time. Roman Thompson scored to complete his own hat trick at 3:31 of the overtime period to give the Monticello Moose a 7-6 win over the Wildcats on Friday, January 19 at Chisago Lakes Arena.
Max Bobrowski scored at 1:11 of the first period, assisted by Jack Bakken and Lucas Ide. The rest of the period was quiet, and at that point nobody had any idea how wild the game would get. There were eight goals scored in the second period, including five by the Wildcats: Griffin Perreault, assisted by Ty Gajeski; Bakken, assisted by Max Koch and Dustin Palewicz; Bobrowski, assisted by Bakken and Ben Kerkow; Joe Alexander, assisted by Gajeski, and Kerkow, assisted by Baken and Bobrowski. When the period was over, the Wildcats had a comfortable-seeming 6-3 lead.
But Cambridge scored just 39 seconds into the third period to cut the Wildcat lead to 6-4. They scored two more goals midway through the period to tie the game at 6-6 and sent the game into overtime and Thompson’s game-winner.
Hockey Hullaballoo
The Wildcats will travel to Pine City Civic Center this evening to take on the Pine City Dragons at 7 p.m. And nest Tuesday, they will play the Northern Edge at East Bethel Ice Arena at 7 p.m.
