Donald Grover
Donald Grover was born in La Crosse, WI to George and Mabel Grover. He graduated from Rushford High School and Winona State College. Summers, he worked at Plainview in Libby‘s canning factory where he met his bride, Verna. In 1955 he enlisted in the army and was stationed in Kaiserslautern, Germany. On leave in 1956, Don married Verna in Plainview, Minnesota. Verna joined him in Germany and their first son Michael was born in Landstuhl, Germany in 1957. Upon discharge, Don and Verna moved to Rochester, Minnesota where he worked for McGee contracting. Their second child Becky was born in 1958. Don and Verna moved to Fridley Minnesota, where Don attended the University of Minnesota and earned a degree in civil engineering. His youngest Deborah was born in 1963.
Don graduated as a father of three in 1964 and worked for Bonestroo Engineering in St. Paul. Don started his own civil engineering services in Arden Hills. Don and Verna were living in Fridley Terrace Trailer Park, where they made many lifelong friendships, that they still maintain today. On Don’s birthday May 6, 1965, a tornado took three walls and the roof off their double wide trailer with all three children surviving inside with their teenage babysitter, Dan Gingrich. In 1972, the Grovers purchased an 80-acre hobby farm in Taylors Falls, Minnesota, where they lived for 30 years. Don’s hobbies included smelt fishing, rifle and bow hunting, maple syruping, Namekagon canoe trips, raising horses and cattle, and planting hay, oats and corn. In the late 80s Don worked for the Army Corp of Engineers. In the 90s, he worked at Camp Humphrey, South Korea. Don and Verna traveled throughout the Orient, Australia, and many trips to Hawaii.
Don is survived by his wife Verna Grover; children, Mike, Becky, and Deborah (Mark); grandchildren, Darrin, Matthew and Isobel, great granddaughters, Hailey and Madison.
Don is preceded in death by his brother Jerry and grandson Daniel.
Celebration of life will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, June 15, 2024, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Taylors Falls, MN with a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
