Update on school bus incident

The Rush City school bus driver arrested in February on suspicion of drunk driving, was released on conditions she not use or possess alcohol and not visit liquor stores or bars. Random testing is a condition as well.  She also may not drive a vehicle transporting anybody younger than 16.

Kara Ffrench 59, of Harris was arrested on suspicion of DUI February 15 when her loaded school bus went off the road in Rush City. No injuries were reported.  She faces two gross misdemeanor charges. An evidentiary court hearing is scheduled for May 15.

A domestic dog rescue reported on South Lindstrom Lake March 4, called in about 6 p.m. The struggling collie-type dog was brought in to dry land, when a deputy was pushed out to the unsafe ice area in a small boat. He hauled the dog on board and was pulled by rope back to shore by a Lakes Area Police officer.

March 6 burning leaves cited in Lindstrom. Leaf burning creates too much smoke and is not allowed. Use the compost site north of Chisago City that is owned by the sewage treatment commission or compost your own leaves.

Cell phone use continues to be cited.  Minnesota has a hands-free law which prohibits using a mobile device that you hold in your hand while operating a vehicle.

March 9 Lakes Area responded to single vehicle crash at Lake Blvd. and Deer Garden Lane about quarter after midnight. Driver arrested on suspicion of DUI. No injury but a hydrant and light were hit.

Fire called in at 3 p.m. March 10 outside of Rush City. Property owner denied having been burning anything. DNR and area firefighters dispatched. Small out buildings damaged and a vehicle was burned.
