Franconia Township annual meeting
The Franconia Township annual meeting, held Tuesday, March 12 at the Franconia Town Hall spent most of the peoples’ time on the most popular topic on the agenda — the future town hall. Supervisor Owen Kuhnly reported that progress has recently been made on the site plan, which needs to be completed before bids can be solicited. Potential funding sources were also discussed.
Franconia Township’s levy has not increased in several years. The town proposed a levy of $895,000 for 2025, which is a $25,000 increase over the prior year levy of $870,000. The increase was designated for increasing the Town Hall Fund levy from $50,000 to $75,000.
After some discussion, one resident asked if an additional $25,000 could be put into the Town Hall Fund. After some discussion, the town residents voted to increase the 2025 levy to $920,000, with $50,000 being designated for the Town Hall Fund.
Other topics for discussion were replacement of the bridge to Osceola, the roundabout planned for Highway 95 at State Highway 243, and road construction on the countyline road at the southern edge of the township. All three of these projects will likely take place in the next two to three years.
Kuhnly was re-elected to the town board for a third three-year term. He received 39 of 40 votes cast. There was a write-in vote for Paul Dennison.
