Coon Rapids Invitational

As the track season heads for the postseason in the very near future, the Wildcats seem to be hitting their stride.  The girls won the nine-team Coon Rapids Invitational last Friday, May 3, and the boys came in third on their side of things.

Girls

Senior Addy Barrett and junior Ava Bringgold led the way for the girls, with top finishes in multiple events.  Barrett blazed to victory in the 100-meter dash with a personal record time of 13.11 seconds, with Bringgold coming in third.  Barrett and Bringgold were also part of the four by 100 relay team, along with juniors Kendra Warren and Bene’ Smith, winning that race with a time of 51.00 seconds.  Barrett came in first in the long jump with a leap of 16’7”.   Bringgold finished second in the high jump and third in the 300-meter hurdles.  The Wildcats also won the distance medley relay, which is a 4,000-meter event with sections of various lengths, with a time of 13:11.46.  Sophomore Lauren Kowarsch ran 800 meters, senior Elanor Undem, 400 meters; junior Kaia Osmundson, 800 meters; and eighth-grader Annika Hall, 1600 meters.

Other top finishers for the girls included Hall, second place in the 1600 meter run; the team of Barrett, freshman Addison Griffin, freshman Chelsea Stipe and Warren, third in the four by 200 relay; the team of senior Lainey Hallan, Undem, freshman Kara Hall and Kowarsch, third in the four by 800 relay; and eighth grader Madison Eagle, second in the shot put.  Forest Lake sophomore Alexis Fahey turned in quite a performance in winning the discus, throwing 137’1” – over 40 feet more than her nearest competitor.

Boys

For the boys, junior Biruk Killeen came in first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:04.73.  Junior Blake Siefert won the high jump with a height of 6’0”, and junior Trent Guth came out on top – literally – in the pole vault with a vault of 13’0”, a foot higher than the second place finisher.  In a photo-finish, the boys 4,000-meter distance medley relay team won by .07 seconds.  Freshman Remy Larson led off the event at 1,600 meters, followed by sophomore Kaden Osmundson, 400 meters; junior Brandon Odland, 400 meters; and Killeen, 1600 meters.  The other top finisher for the boys was senior Ben Paulsen, who came in second in second in both the 110-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles.
