Rebels come storming back against Chisago Lakes
Champlin Park 10, Chisago Lakes 9
Chisago Lakes looked like it might run away early from the Champlin Park Rebels on Wednesday, May 1, but it was the Wildcats calling for a May Day as the game finished up, with CL falling 10-9 to the Rebs.
The ‘Cats scored the first four goals of the game, and led 5-1 at halftime. Ben Kerkow, Landon Kerkow and Max Bobrowski were controlling the game from the front end, while defenders Charlie Sprado, Dain Gibson and Carson Langevin created a stonewall in front of goalie Dominic Derocker.
It certainly seemed that the Wildcats were on their way to a blowout win and they would move to 3-2 on the year. But, Champlin Park’s Gavin Bosch had other ideas. The junior exploded for a hat trick in the second half, and three other Rebels scored multiple goals to quickly erase the ‘Cats lead.
Despite still scoring at a decent pace, the Wildcats all of a sudden couldn’t control CP’s attack, as the Rebels started to gain possession more often in the second half, which is such a key in lacrosse.
By the end of the third quarter, the Rebels had trimmed the lead to just one at 7-6, and they continued their offensive onslaught in the fourth quarter, scoring four more goals to CL’s two, and eeking out the one goal victory. It snatched the win from the ‘Cats as they looked comfortable for the first 30 minutes.
Ben Kerkow had two goals and five assists for the ‘Cats, factoring in seven of their nine goals. Bobrowski scored two goals and one helper, Landon Kerkow had two goals and Cam Triplett netted a goal and had an assist. Judah Goehring, Drew Nelson and Jake Haseltine had the other scores for Chisago Lakes. Derocker made 12 saves on 22 Champlin Park shots.
The ‘Cats hosted Duluth earlier this week, and the Wolfpack are a nasty, tough team to play. The ‘Cats will then travel to Anoka on Saturday, May 11 before hosting Minneapolis and Andover on back-to-back nights on Tuesday, May 14 and Wednesday, May 15.
