Reminder on property tax
The deadline to pay all or part of your property tax is right around the corner. The payment system for any taxes at $100 or less, calls for the bill to be paid in one installment. The property tax that’s more than $100 requires at least the first half paid by May 15 and the second half in October.
The office of the Chisago County auditor-treasurer accepts payments. You can do this on-line or by mail or in person during business hours.
The mailed statement you received about a month ago is your only notice, but statements can be found on the county website, or call 213-8500 to have a statement sent to you.
The May 15 deadline is for homestead property (which is where you reside) and for cabins and agricultural and personal property.
If you have a mobile home your payment deadline is August 31.
Non-payment penalties begin immediately once you have missed a deadline. Homestead properties have a two percent fee attached, followed by four percent as of June 1 and by October the penalty is 8 percent.
If you miss the personal property tax payment deadline the penalty starts at 8 percent and stays there accruing each month of non-payment.
Non-Homestead property penalty is four percent immediately and 8 percent by June to 12 percent by October.
