CL tested twice, but survive both
This season had been full of blowouts and fun times for the Chisago Lakes girls lacrosse team, but things got a bit more serious last week for the Wildcats as they survived two one-goal games against St. Croix Prep and Monticello.
Chisago Lakes 12, St. Croix Prep 11
The first game was against an 8-2 St. Croix Prep co-op that features girls from the title school, New Life Academy, South St. Paul and Liberty Classical Academy.
The Lions ambushed Chisago Lakes in the first quarter, going up 4-0 and putting the ‘Cats in a quick hole that they aren’t used to. Luckily for CL, they were able to emphatically answer in the second quarter, netting seven goals to just one for SCP and taking a 7-5 lead into the break.
But, the Lions have a gaudy record on the year as well, and they weren’t ready to fold up shop. They scored six goals in the second half to CL’s four, and that sent the game into overtime. Chisago Lakes, which has been so good at possessing the ball this year, grabbed the opening faceoff of the extra session, and it didn’t take long for them to score the deciding goal and win 12-11.
Kamryn Peterson, Brooke Klemz and Naomi Eaton each had two goals for the Wildcats. Camryn Hinsch, Katelyn Anderson, Evi Reedy, Lauren Schmidt, Olivia Rambosek and Linnea Carlson all potted goals for the ‘Cats in a game in which they needed every score.
Laura Carlson had 11 saves on 22 shots, making some key stops for CL along the way.
Chisago Lakes 6, Monticello 5
The Wildcats kept their perfect season intact with a close Mississippi 8 Conference win over the Magic on Friday, May 17. The ‘Cats got a big game from Peterson, who had a goal and two assists and Klemz, who scored two more goals. Rambosek, Aly Vogelsang and Hinsch scored the other goals for CL in the game.
Carlson had another stout game, making eight saves on 13 shots.
The Wildcats finish their regular season this week with match ups against two big schools that are struggling. They took on Forest Lake on Wednesday, May 22 in a battle of the Lakes Area. The Rangers, though, are 2-10 on the year. Chisago Lakes will end the regular season on Thursday, May 23 with a home game against St. Michael-Albertville. The Knights are just 1-10 on the year, but their one win was a 9-6 triumph over the Monticello team that just gave CL some issues.
