Wildcats upset Huskies in first round
The Chisago Lakes boys tennis team ended their individual seasons in either the opening round or second round of the tough Section 7AA tournament on Saturday, May 18.
The doubles pair of Rhivers Sauter and Caleb Brink were the only competitors to win a game, beating a Grand Rapids duo 6-2, 6-2 in the opening round.
The Chisago Lakes twosome had to play the top seeded team in the section in the second round, and they fell to a similar score to Keegen Lowman and Micah Gustafson, losing 6-2, 6-2.
The other doubles team of Aaron brink and Nolan Levasseur lost a tough game in the first round, going down 7-5, 6-1 to Declan Johnson and Liam Georges of Forest Lake.
In singles, both Will Walker and Sam Kern fell in their first round match ups.
In the team bracket, the 10th-seeded Wildcats used some crafty lineup maneuvering and upset seventh-seeded Andover 4-3. The ‘Cats stole two doubles points and to go on top of winning third and fourth singles to come away with the victory.
Miles Odland and Nick Hansen were the individual winners for CL, with Odland winning 6-3, 6-4 and Hansen winning 6-4, 6-3.
In doubles, Caleb Brink and Sauter cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win at the first spot and Kern and Quinlyn Ryan won handily at third doubles, 6-2, 6-1.
The win set them up with a showdown against the second-seeded Blaine Bengals. They were supposed to take to the court on Tuesday, May 21, but the torrential downpour pushed that match up after the Chisago County Press went to print.
