GOP endorses Rymer

The executive committee of the Chisago County Republican Party has chosen Max Rymer, who moved to North Branch from the south metro three years ago,  as the GOP endorsed candidate for MN House 28B.

The GOP has had an incumbent, Anne Neu Brindley, in this House seat for multiple terms.  An initial endorsement session, held April 9,  was continued by committee members who reportedly were concerned there hadn’t been enough time for potential candidates to come forward, following Anne Neu Brindley announcing she would not seek another term. (Press story March 26)

A second endorsing session convened May 14 at Veritas Academy and two potential candidates were there to present themselves— Max Rymer and Blair Calderon, a California transplant also to North Branch, and formerly employed by the Los Angeles Police Department.

Both said they would abide by the endorsement process and support whomever was selected.  The two introduced themselves at the start of the screening, held in Veritas Academy, north of Lindstrom. They gave timed responses to pre-written questions from the executive committee and the public could attend but did not submit questions.

Rymer has previously been a candidate for the legislature when he resided in Bloomington. He is in marketing and also said he worked on the Jensen-Birk campaign for Governor.

He will be challenged by Mary Jo Murphy, Dem- Taylors Falls, who has announced her run and the endorsement by the DFL for the District 28B House seat.

There could also be an independent or non-endorsed campaign yet in the mix.  Filing is still underway for federal. state and county terms

District 28B covers most of Chisago County.

There are two other MN House members representing the rest of Chisago County. To the west side, 10 year incumbent Rep Brian Johnson did not win GOP endorsement for District 28A.  Jimmy Gordon received 79 percent of the vote to Rep. Johnson’s 20 percent.

Along the uppermost edge of Chisago County, House District 11 is held by Nathan Nelson, R-Pine City.
