CL breaks early losing streak, wins first game of the season
Holy Angels 7, Chisago Lakes 0
The Holy Angels Stars showed why they are the top-ranked Class A girls’ hockey team in the state, shutting out the Wildcats 7-0 on Tuesday, November 12 at Richfield Ice Arena. Seven different players scored goals for the Stars, who outshot the Wildcats 45-14 for the game.
Chisago Lakes 6, Northern Tier 4
Senior Lauren Schmidt scored her first career hat trick to lead the Wildcats to a 6-4 comeback win over the Northern Tier Stars Thursday, November 14 at Isanti Ice Arena. The Wildcats, who trailed 4-3 after two periods, scored three goals in the third period to pick up their first win of the young season. The Wildcat outshot Northern Tier 53-22 for the game.
The Stars put the Wildcats back on their heels with two goals in the first minute of the game. Schmidt responded with two goals in a 34-second span to tie the game at 2-2. She scored her first goal at 6:54 of the period, assisted by junior Naomi Eaton. At 7:28, seventh-grader Aven Lyckholm picked up the single assist on Schmidt’s second goal. Ten minutes into the period, senior Nora DeVries scored a power play goal, assisted by Schmidt, to give the Wildcats a 3-2 lead. Northern Tier tied it with less than two minutes to go in the period. The Stars scored midway through the second period to take a 4-3 lead.
Schmidt completed her hat trick with a goal at 5:28 of the third period to tie the game at 4-4, with DeVries getting the assist. 43 seconds later, junior Allie Smothers scored the go-ahead goal, with junior Seanna Ritter picking up the assist. DeVries scored an unassisted shorthanded goal with 15 seconds to go in the game to make the final score 6-4.
Hockey Hullaballoo
The game against Holy Angels was the first of eight straight road games for the Wildcats. Tonight, they will head to Blake Ice Arena in Hopkins to take on the Blake Bears at 7 p.m. And on next Tuesday, the Wildcats will play the Gentry Academy Stars at Tartan Arena in St. Paul at 7 p.m.
