‘Cats struggle in Burnsville tournament
Chisago Lakes was placed in arguably the toughest pool in the Midwest Volleyball Warehouse Showcase over the weekend, and it resulted in an 0-5 run that threw cold water on what was a nice little winning streak.
The Lady ‘Cats opened their tournament with a match up against last year’s consolation state champion and undefeated Grand Rapids. The Thunderhawks won going away, 25-18-25-20.
Unfortunately for Chisago Lakes, it wasn’t going to get any easier. They took on Rocori in their second match, and the Spartans won 25-16, 25-17 and would eventually finish fourth in the 16 team tourney.
The ‘Cats then had to take on a very tough Mound Westonka team that won 25-9-25-16 over CL.
Their 0-3 record in pool play sent them to the Flight 1 bracket, where they had reigning and defending Mississippi 8 Conference champions Monticello waiting for them in the semifinals.
The Magic beat Chisago Lakes 25-17, 25-16 to send them to consolation against Kasson Mantorville.
Chisago Lakes played their best game of the tournament against the KoMets, winning the first set 25-19, but lost the next two 25-17, 15-10 to send them to a 16th place finish in the tough tournament.
