Girls run unbeaten streak to six
Chisago Lakes 3, Cambridge 2
Determined to extend their four-game winning streak, the Wildcats faced off against a much-improved Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets team at Cambridge last Thursday. The Wildcats won 3-2 to keep the streak going.
At the 13-minute mark, Isabella Heinsch scored from 15 yards out to put the Wildcats up 1-0. In the 32nd minute, the Blue Jackets were awarded a penalty kick. Wildcat goalkeeper Ruby Anderson, an eighth grader, made the initial save, but the Bluejackets knocked it in off the deflection to even the score at 1-1. In the 55th minute, Emily Carroll drove a 30-yard assist to Civeah McDonald, who put it in the back of the net to give the Wildcats at 2-1 lead. In the 61st minute, Paige Peterson connected on a pass with Lexy Bartz, who drove it down the sideline and rifled a shot that directly off the post to a waiting Kaitlyn Barnick, who smashed the ball into the back of the net to put the Wildcats up 3-1. The Bluejackets scored in the 70th minute on a corner kick to cut the Wildcat lead to 3-2, but the Wildcats held on to the lead to win the match.
Chisago Lakes 1, St. Francis 1
On Monday, the Wildcats faced off against the St. Francis Fighting Saints, one of the top teams in the Mississippi 8 Conference. The conditions were hot and both teams played at a much lower than usual intensity. It was a match of willpower on both sides. The Saints put the first score on the board at the 6-minute mark with a corner kick that ended up being an own goal by the Wildcats. In the 28th minute, the Cats tied it back up with a Taylor Kubalek corner to Isabella Heinsch, who scored with a commanding header into the net to tie the score at 1-1. The match remained tied throughout the second half, and the game ended 1-1. The Wildcats, Fighting Saints, Monticello Magic, and Zimmerman Thunder all still undefeated in conference play.
