The season didn’t start off how the Chisago Lakes boys lacrosse team was hoping, as they dropped a 12-2 loss to Farmington, but they bounced back for a big Mississippi 8 Conference win over Becker last week to get back to even on the year.

Farmington 12, Chisago Lakes 2

The Wildcats didn’t get off to a great start against the Tigers, as they were down 4-0 after the first quarter and 8-1 at the halftime break. Farmington was able to control the faceoffs and that led to possession time for them that translated to the goals.

In the second half, the defense tightened up a bit, but it didn’t translate to the offensive end as CL only scored one more goal in the second half.

The goal scorers for the ‘Cats were brothers Ben and Landon Kerkow. Liam Sullivan gathered the lone assist of the night.

The boys responded with a nice come-from-behind win over M8C foe Becker on Tuesday, April 12. The ‘Cats had a narrow lead at halftime, but a 5-2 third quarter for Becker gave them the edge at 11-10. But, CL came out on a mission in the fourth quarter and they outscored the Bulldogs 5-0 to claim their first win of the year.

Jake Haseltine had himself a game for the ‘Cats, scoring seven goals and dishing out an assist. Many of the set ups for Haseltine’s goals came from the stick of Ben Kerkow, as the senior had a 10 point night with two goals and eight assists. Max Bobrowski also starred on the offensive end for CL, scoring four goals to go with an assist. Emmit Hahn and Sullivan were the other two goal scorers for CL in their win.

Goalies Dominic Derocker and Zane Adams split time in net, and they each faced nine shots. Derocker made three saves and Adams made four.

This week was a tough slate for CL, as they hosted Hill-Murray on Tuesday, April 22 and travel to Duluth to take on the highly-touted Wolfpack on Thursday April 24.

Next week, CL gets a little home cooking, as they host Rogers on Tuesday, April 29 and Big Lake/Princeton on Thursday, May 1.
