In Loving Memory of Gary Gilbert Lankey — June 8, 1946 – July 25, 2025
With heavy hearts and enduring love, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, Gary Gilbert Lankey, on Friday, July 25, 2025, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Born on June 8, 1946, in Waseca, Minnesota, Gary was the eldest son of Howard “Joe” and Beatrice (Waldemar) Lankey. He was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in his faith. A proud graduate of the Belgrade High School Class of 1964, Gary was a talented athlete who especially loved playing football and baseball. Following high school, Gary honorably served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Ranger aircraft carrier. His sense of duty, loyalty, and perseverance would guide him throughout his life.
Professionally, Gary built a diverse and accomplished career. He spent many years at NCR Comten, developed relationships through various leadership and sales roles, and later fulfilled a heartfelt mission as co-owner (alongside his devoted wife Judy) of Windy Acres Assisted Living. Together, they created a warm and caring home for many.
Gary was known for his vibrant spirit, quick wit, and generous heart. He had a lifelong passion for sports, especially golf, and enjoyed countless “beer ball” games with his NCR family. Music (particularly rock and roll) was always playing in the background of his life, often while relaxing in his cherished backyard with loved ones and a cold beer in hand. That yard became a gathering place, where stories were shared, laughter echoed, and memories were made.
Gary leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience. He is survived by his children; Michelle (Dan) Strese, David (Chanda) Lankey, Sheryl (Carl) Swanson, and daughter-in-law Terri Perron; his brother Guy Lankey; sister Genise (Curt) Boettcher; grandchildren Trisha, Ashley, Brent, Joseph (Jasmin), Brandon, Kyler, and Amber; as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
He is reunited in peace with his loving wife Judy; his parents, Howard “Joe”and Beatrice; sons Aaron Lankey and Michael Perron; sister-in-law Barb Lankey and grandson Tony Perron.
A Celebration of Gary’s life will be held 11 a.m. Friday, August 8, 2025, at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Lindstrom, Minnesota. Visitation one hour prior to the service at church. Interment at South Green Lake Cemetery in Chisago City, MN. Arrangements by Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom, MN. Condolences may be expressed online at www.grandstrandfh.com
Though we mourn his loss, we are forever grateful for the time we had with Gary and the love he so freely gave. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
