Motorists may encounter lane, ramp closures on Highway 36/64 St. Croix bridge
Motorists traveling across the St. Croix River between Minnesota and Wisconsin next week may encounter daily lane and ramp closures as Minnesota Department of Transportation maintenance crews remove epoxy coating that has peeled off the driving surface of the St. Croix River bridge. Maintenance activities are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4 through Thursday, Aug. 7. Work will begin on the eastbound lanes and then switch to the westbound lanes when work is completed on the eastbound side of the bridge. In addition to the lane and ramp closures as needed, there will be a 12-foot width restriction. The closures will be extended to additional days if needed.
A different sealer with grit (sand) for traction, will be applied to the bridge deck later in August.
The wear surface is applied to larger, more costly bridges to protect and preserve the bridge deck and driving surface. It serves no structural purpose.
The St. Croix River Crossing, opened to traffic on August 2, 2017. The river crossing connects WIS Highway 64 and the town of St. Joseph, Wis., with MN Highway 36 in Oak Park Heights, Minn.
All motorists are advised to plan ahead, allow extra time, and check 511 for updates.
