Yvonne “Vonnie” Claire Johnson passed away peacefully at the age of 98. She was born in Rush City, Minnesota to Clarence and Clara Jonason on March 18, 1927. She graduated from North Branch High School in 1945 and married James “Jimmy” Johnson in 1947 in Las Cruces, NM while he was serving in the US Army.
Vonnie dedicated 30 years to the ASC office in North Branch and claimed she knew the names of all the farmers in Chisago County. Vonnie had a strong Christian faith and attended Trinity Lutheran Church where she took part in weekly bible study and volunteered her time to numerous church projects. She loved music and enjoyed playing her organ. She and Jimmy played together at the local senior center and entertained the residents. At our Christmas Eve gatherings, it was a family tradition to sing carols as Vonnie played.
Her hobbies included fishing at the family cabin in Grand Marais, golfing, sewing, making jam, apple butter and pies. She was also an avid Gophers and Twins fan as well as a fan of the local high school teams. Vonnie loved her children, grand and great grandchildren and spent as much time as she could with them. She enjoyed having coffee and dessert with her friends especially the “Silver Bells”.
Vonnie is survived by her children, Steve (Bev), Dennis, Mary Jo (Harry) Fleming and Jeff (Cleo). Five grandchildren Troy (Kristy) Fleming, Kajsa (Jim) Genzel, Doug (Nicci), Stacy (Sean Cole), and Eric (April), 12 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Lorie Wenzel and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by husband Jimmy and sisters Mary Anne Solle and Joanne Christine Tell; also seven brother-in-laws, four sister-in-laws, five nephews and one niece.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church in North Branch with Rev. Paul Cannon officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church on Saturday. Interment will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in North Branch.
