Wildcat boys hockey splits two

Gentry Academy 3, Chisago Lakes 2

Jason Cook scored at 3:03 of overtime to give the Gentry Academy Stars a 3-2 in over the Wildcat boys’ hockey team Thursday, December 11 at Aldrich Ice Arena.  The Wildcats outshot the Stars 39-26 for the game, but Stars’ goalie Gavin Grose stopped 37 of the 39 shots he faced to pick up the win.

Carson Purdy got the Wildcats on the scoreboard at the midpoint of the first period, assisted by Quin Ryan and Ashton Warnke.  Collin Hennes evened it up for Gentry Academy at 6:42 of the second period.  The Wildcats re-took the lead on Zach Carlson’s goal at 11:24 of the second period, but the Stars tied it up on a goal by Cook with just over a minute to go in the period.  There was no scoring in the third period, setting the stage for Gentry Academy’s overtime victory.


Chisago Lakes 5, Osseo 0

Five different Wildcats scored and Jacob Schaeppi earned his second shutout of the season as the Wildcats crushed the Osseo Orioles 5-0 on Saturday, December 13 at Dick Vraa Arena in Osseo.  The Wildcats outshot the Orioles 39-17 for the game, and Schaeppi stopped all 17 shots he faced for the shutout.

Landon Kerkow opened the scoring at 2:35 of the first period, assisted by Max Koch and Nick Hansen. Six minutes later, Hansen scored a power play goal to make it 2-0, with the assists going to Kerkow and Zach Carlson.  Jacob Kletti scored with five minutes left in the second period to increase the Wildcat lead to 3-0. Kerkow and Hansen picked up the assists.  And the Wildcats put an exclamation point on a dominant performance with two goals just 37 seconds apart in the third period.  Colton Horak scored a power play goal at 10:06, assisted by Koch and Kletti.  Carlson put one in the back of the net at 10:43, with the assists going to Ryan and Warnke, to make the final score 5-0.


Hockey Hullaballoo

Max Koch has 14 assists this season, tying him for 11th in the state.  Austin Slettom is just one behind Koch, with 13 assists.

The Wildcats have just one game before the Christmas break.  They play the Becker/Big Lake Eagles tonight at 7 p.m. at Chisago Lakes Arena.
