Township ballot filings underway
by DENISE MARTIN
The area townships will be filling seats this election cycle. The annual elections come on the same day as township annual meetings— March 10. Election is in the daytime and upon closing polling, township annual meetings can convene. Most start at a little after 8 p.m. (Nessel is the only local township that holds elections for town board on the same day as the general election in November. Nessel residents still have their annual meeting on March 10.)
The seats expiring include:
• Amador has one supervisor seat for a three year term.
• Chisago Lake has one supervisor seat for three years and the clerk is on the ballot.
• Franconia has one three year supervisor seat for three years.
• Shafer has its clerk and one supervisor on the ballot in March.
• Sunrise has two supervisor terms expiring and its clerk is on the ballot.
Those townships that do not need to elect a clerk in this cycle, appoint their clerk by Town Board decision.
To file for putting your name on a ballot you need to reside in the township. The filing is open now and closes January 13. File your candidacy at the town hall.
