In a brief city council session Jan. 21 the Wyoming Council awarded three essayists their prize for being selected to move on to the state Mayor for a Day essay contest. There were 56 entries all from local sixth graders. The idea had been to award one first prize for three age groups in grades 4, 5 and 6, but the city instead chose three of the essays by the sixth graders to move on. Split Rocks Entertainment Center provided $25 gift cards for each.
Winners are pictured with Mayor Lisa Iverson: they are Gabrielle Vang, Kiera Dickover and Jocelyn Walsh. Their essays contain some good ideas about what they’d do if they were mayor-for-a-day.
