Chisago City wins grant
Chisago City officials have been hoping for a specialized state grant that would assist in setting up the infrastructure necessary to add onto the city industrial park— and it appears the funding is now on its way. According to a press release Chisago City, Stewartville, North Mankato and Hermantown have been awarded state innovative projects funding.
Chisago City’s projects have been contingent on the city improving a road system and ensuring city services to land adjacent to the existing industrial park, north of Hwy 8. The incoming projects are a new facility for LEI, a food packaging manufacturer (currently egg cartons) and a marijuana grow and edibles product manufacturing facility proposed by King Kind, a cultivation firm operating across the U.S.
The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development awarded $214,270 to Chisago City, one of four grants from the Greater MN Business Development Public Infrastructure for innovative businesses. DEED covers 50 percent of the eligible capital costs for infrastructure such as streets, wastewater collection, stormsewer and other qualifying needs. When all the eligible projects are completed there will be an estimated 869 jobs and private investment of $255 million will be leveraged.
