Delano/Rockford 6, Chisago Lakes 2

Mckenzie Perry scored four goals to lead Delano/Rockford to a 6-2 win over the Wildcats girls’ hockey team on Tuesday, January 7 at the Delano Area Sports Arena.  Perry scored twice in the first period as Delano took a 3-0 lead.  Joee Westland scored a power play goal at exactly the halfway point of the second period, assisted by Allie Smothers and Nora DeVries, to cut the Delano lead to 3-1.  But Delano responded with a power play goal of their own just over a minute later to stretch their lead back to three goals.  Kali Hanson next scored a shorthanded goal a minute later to cut the Delano lead to 4-2.  Lexi Smothers got the single assist on Hanson’s goal.  But Perry put one in the back of the net with 54 seconds left in the second period to earn her hat trick and increase the Delano lead to 5-2.  Perry added her fourth goal of the game in the third period to make the final score 6-2.

Proctor/Hermantown 7, Chisago Lakes 2

The schedule never gets any easier for the Wildcats.  They welcomed the seventh-ranked Proctor/Hermantown Mirage to town last Thursday, January 9, and the Mirage headed back north after thrashing the Wildcats 7-2.  The Mirage scored three goals in the first eleven minutes of the game to take a 3-0 lead.  Nora DeVries got the Wildcats on the scoreboard at 13:38, assisted by Lexi Smothers, to cut the Mirage lead to 3-1.  But the Mirage scored four straight after that and led 7-1 after two periods.  They clamped down on the Wildcats in the third period, allowing them just five shots on goal. Smothers managed to bury one of those shots in the back of the net, assisted by DeVries, to make the final score Proctor/Hermantown, 7, Chisago Lakes 2.

Hockey Hullaballoo

The Wildcats (6-13-0) will welcome the Princeton/Big Lake/Becker Tigers to Chisago Lakes Arena tonight at 7 pm. for a Mississippi 8 Conference clash.  And next Tuesday, January 21 CL hosts Northern Tier at 7 p.m.
