Just one game remains between the Chisago Lakes girl lacrosse team and their first ever berth into the state tournament.

After dispatching the Spring Lake Park Panthers easily in the first round, 17-6, the Wildcats hosted fifth seeded Grand Rapids/Greenway on Tuesday, June 3 and earned their second win this year over the Lightning.

That victory sends them to a section championship game against Centennial, as the girls try to punch their first ever ticket to state. The game is at Chisago Lakes at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 5.

Chisago Lakes 17, Spring Lake Park 6

The ‘Cats started their section journey by crushing the co-op team from Spring Lake Park and Coon Rapids. CL gained the upper hand early, out scoring the Panthers 2-0 in the first quarter before a six goal explosion gave them an 8-2 lead at halftime.

Chisago Lakes continued to add on to the lead in the third quarter, netting three goals to SLP’s one to go up 11-3. The offense continued to press in the fourth quarter, scoring six more goals for the ‘Cats as they wrapped up the easy 17-6 victory.

There were a gaggle of goal scorers for CL, with Katelyn Anderson, Madelyn Barten, and Linnea Carlson all scoring hat tricks for the Wildcats. Barten added two assists as well. Naomi Eaton and Camryn Hinsch each had two goals and two assists and Olivia Rambosek had two goals and an assist. Evi Reedy and Raeann Goehring were the solo goal scorers for the ‘Cats.

Chisago Lakes 14, Grand Rapids 4

In the section semifinals, the Wildcats crushed Grand Rapids/Greenway — a team that had given them problems early in the year — to punch their ticket to the section championship game on Thursday, June 5.

The Wildcats got a stellar offensive performance from Katelyn Anderson and Camryn Hinsch and a lockdown effort from Laura Carlson in net to win 14-4. The ‘Cats had barely snuck by the Lightning in their first game of the year, 10-9.

CL will host the Cougars of Centennial at 7 p.m. for the right to go to state.
