Kathleen “Kathy” Marie Nordaune (née Boland) passed away on June 9, 2025 at Encore Assisted Living in North Branch, MN.
Kathleen was born the youngest of 11 on March 31, 1950 to Lily and William Boland of Sioux City, IA. In 1968 she graduated from Sioux City Central, the “Castle on the Hill”, and in 1971 she moved to Minnesota for new job opportunities and to be closer to her sisters.
After beginning a position as a legal secretary at Dorsey Whitney, she met Penny Kairies whose husband, Graham, was friends with Dale Nordaune. Kathleen and Dale remained in touch after his first wife passed in 1976 and were married on April 29, 1978. In 1987 the couple welcomed a daughter, Abby. Kathleen retired as a legal secretary from Grundhoefer & Alliegro of Center City, MN in 2016. She and Dale moved off “the farm” and into North Branch proper in 2014 to spend their retirement.
Kathleen loved to spend time each summer growing the largest vegetable garden she could. She’d spend many late nights canning, freezing, and baking the results—her specialty being pies for Thanksgiving or to have at the ready for late nights playing cards with her and Dale’s friends.
She and Dale were active members of Trinity Lutheran Church. She held several church council positions and loved to sing the hymns, joining the church choir and on several occasions successfully coercing Abby into duetting as the featured special music of the Sunday service. She will be remembered as the warmest and most caring wife and mom, whose sense of humor, quick wit, and carefree, infectious laugh stayed with her until the end.
Kathleen is survived by her daughter Abby; sister Judy Trippel of Maplewood, MN; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Dale; sisters Bonnie, Geraldine, Norma, Colleen, and Janet; and brothers Bill, Ed, Don and Dick Boland.
Memorial service will be held 11 am, Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church, North Branch, with a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are with Grandstrand Funeral Home, North Branch, MN. Condolences may be expressed online at www.grandstrandfh.com.
