North Branch senior Ashley Bistodeau ended her career at North Branch on a high mark, shooting a personal best 78 after an opening round 90 at The Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan at the Class AA state meet last week.
Bistodeau’s 90 on the first day left her near the bottom quarter of the standings in the 88 woman field, but her 78 on the second day was tied for the seventh best score on the day, only two strokes behind state champion Genevieve Birkeland of Pequot Lakes.
Chisago Lakes senior Kali Hanson was a bit more consistent in her state go-around in the Class AAA meet. Hanson shot matching 82s in her final meets as a Wildcat, and that earned her a tie for 32nd place in the meet.
Hanson’s dueling 82s were impressive, given that Bunker Hills Golf Course is a challenging track.
Boys
For the boys that qualified for the state meet, North Branch’s Nick Melvin and Carter Magnison, it was a disappointing end to their season. Melvin, a freshman who is already in his third state meet, shot an 81 and 83 at The Ridges at Sand Creek to finish in 70th place in the 88 golfer field.
Magnison, a sophomore, made his debut at the state meet and finished in 77th place, shooting a great 78 in the opening round, but then carding a tough 89 on the second day.
