Despite their sterling record on the year, the Chisago Lakes girls lacrosse team drew the eighth seed in the state tournament, and that meant they had to play unbeaten eventual state champions Prior Lake in the first round on Tuesday, June 17.
The Lakers were a bit too much for the Wildcats to handle, and they cruised to an 18-5 victory over CL, sending the ‘Cats to the consolation bracket.
Goals came from Katelyn Anderson with two, and Linnea Carlson, Camryn Hinsch and Naomi Eaton each potting one. Prior Lake’s trio of stars did much of the damage, with Tali Baldzicki, Emerson Mattox and Lauryn Knutson combining for 10 goals.
In their first round of consolation play, the ‘Cats drew Orono and although the match was much closer than the Prior Lake affair, CL had trouble again with a high-powered offense led by Riley Teele, Layla Nick and Dylan Collins, who combined for 13 goals and three assists (the trio combined for 282 points during the season, by far the highest total for a trio in the state).
The final tally for the loss was 15-11, with Carlson, Olivia Rambosek, Hinsch and Anderson netting two goals and RaeAnn Goehring, Evi Reedy and Eaton scoring solo tallies.
Orono would go on to lose the consolation championship to Maple Grove, 9-7.
