The Comfort Lake-Forest Lake Watershed District managers got an early update about a major road project that affects commuters who use Itasca Avenue south from Chisago City, and head into the metro area off of North Shore Trail in Forest Lake.   This alternative route is a favorite when looking to avoid Highway 8.

The plans for re-surfacing, curb and gutter, etc. are coming together for projects proposed on North Shore Trail , on the shoreline from Greenway to Highway 97, starting in May 2025.

The Watershed District Board anticipated an application from the City of Forest Lake for stormwater projects, which the watershed staff regulate— but permitting is not underway yet.   The managers were told the watershed district’s engineering firm is being included in discussions and meetings.  

Meanwhile, MNDOT announces a public meeting on the upcoming Hwy 97 construction project, will be held Tuesday March 11.  The pblic can learn more from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the second floor community room in the Forest Lake City Hall/Community Center on South Lake Street.

Construction is planned to be done by the end of fall 2026.
