Steven L. Sargeant was surrounded by his family as he peacefully passed away on March 1, 2025, at the age of 65 years old after a tough 7-month battle with cancer. Steve was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially with his family and friends. Anyone who knew him, knows he loved a project and anything involving power tools and heavy machinery. He loved to crack jokes and tease his closest friends – thinking he had a superior sense of humor. To Steve, his family, friends, community, and country were most important to him
He grew up in Forest Lake, Minnesota, where he attended school until 1978. Steve went on to college at the University of Minnesota Duluth where he played football and met Stephanie. Steve graduated with a physical education degree in 1984, later teaching and coaching football on the Iron Range in Minnesota. Steve decided to join the Army in 1986, becoming an Army Ranger. He earned his Combat Jump Wings in 1989 during “Operation Just Cause”, a US military invasion of Panama.
Steve and Stephanie married on June 18th, 1988. In February 1990 Steve left the Army to join his father at Lakes Gas Co. He worked diligently for 33 and a half years to develop and implement programs to expand and grow the company. During Steve’s spare time, he coached his children’s sports, including T-ball, baseball, hockey, lacrosse, and football. In 1998 Steve started the Chisago Lakes Youth Football Program becoming more involved in the community. This program continues to thrive.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents Howard and Sophie, father-in-law Mike Carlson, and special family Donnie Holl. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Stephanie; children Eric (Katie), Jeffrey (Laura), Daniel (Sarah), Katelyn, Sarah, and Thomas; grandkids Lydia, Henry, Phoebe, Timmy, Jett, and Baby S; mother-in-law Brenda Bailey; special family Barb Mickelson and Snookie Holl; sisters Jill Graham (Steve), Robin Woolever (Mike), Mary Buck (Tony), and Ann Sargeant; nieces and nephews, and many dear family friends.
