St. Patrick's Day awareness raised by DPS

The Office of Traffic Safety with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety held a press gathering to highlight their message to “have a plan” when you are going to be partying and need transportation.

With St. Patrick’s Day on the horizon, state and local law enforcement officials  held a press conference for metro media, at Scooters, in Chisago City Friday. They promoted options to driving-while-impaired and to be vigilant and be part of the solution by keeping anyone you suspect of being impaired off the road.

DPS Office of Traffic Safety Mike Hanson stated that  all of us should be outraged at the more than 20,000 arrests for impaired driving that happened in the state last year.  He asks that you simply make a plan, utilize the options for getting home from a party or event and make arrests for impaired driving a thing of the past.

Chisago County’s Kyle Puelston spoke briefly about his patrol vehicle being struck in 2020 by a drunk driver and his injuries and recovery.

The Scooters bar-restaurant was selected for the press conference because it is hosting a regular Chisago County Sheriff’s public outreach event Friday night, March 21, from 5 to 7 p.m.

These are called “Learn Your Limits” and are useful as a public education tool.  County personnel describe alcohol impacts and what happens during an arrest/prosecution. They can help patrons who volunteer in learning about what their own bodies process.  There is a free raffle as part of these events.  Scooters is at the southeast corner of the city park at Hwy 8 and Old Towne Road.
