George Nick



George was born in Eureka Township, Polk County to Charles and Viola Mae Nick on June 21, 1930. He gained his wings and joined his wife on March 3, 2025 with his daughter by his side. 

He is survived by his daughter Laureljean Ellen Nick; grandson Wesley Nick Baker (Lori); great-grandaughter Lilith June Baker; brother Richard, sisters Margaret and Muriel; nephews and nieces Robert, Greg, Richard and Debbie;  Dwight, Tim, Cheryl, Cindy and Gail along with many others.

George is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years (June Marie Weibel Nick); parents; grandson Rodger Baker, brother Charles and sisters Phyllis and Donna Rae. 

George graduated from Chi-Hi in Lindstrom, Minnesota in 1950. He served in the Merchant Marines from 1950 - 1954. He met June at the Marigold Ballroom in Minneapolis and they were united in marriage on September 5, 1954. 

George worked construction and for Western Electric in Duluth MN. He attended University of Minnesota, Duluth and Green Bay along with Dunwoody Institute graduating with a Civil Engineering Degree. He began his career with the Minnesota Highway Department in 1958 and worked for Chicago Northwestern Railway Company from 1961 until his retirement. 

George was a lifetime member of the Osman Temple Shrine since 1980 doing many great things with and supporting that organization. He was also a lifetime member of the Minnesota Gopher Horseshoe Pitching Association receiving many awards and making many friends that were active in his life always. He was also a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge.

When his wife passed in February 2022, he made the move to Lindstrom and then settled in at Ecumen Pleasant Point Heights in Chisago City where he was able to enjoy the company of his sister Margaret and his brother Richard as they also live in the facility. He was honored with a Dignity Walk as he was leaving his home and many friends lined the halls to say goodbye. George had a great sense of humor and a great outlook on life. He was a fair man and could be trusted to give you some great advice when asked.. He was famous for sharing a $2 bill with children and as a thank you to others for any courtesy that was given him. He always kept a very good supply on hand. 

A Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2025 at Zion Lutheran Church, 28005 Old Towne Road, Chisago City, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Arrangements by Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom, MN. Condolences may be expressed online at www.grandstrandfh.com.  Memorials can be made to the Down Syndrome Foundation and Hospice of Minnesota
