Wildcats split two razor tight games
The Chisago Lakes boys lacrosse team played in two games last week that were decided by one goal and that came out on both ends of the spectrum in the contests.
Hill-Murray 12, Chisago Lakes 11
A flurry of goals in the third quarter turned a comfortable Wildcat lead into a small deficit, and despite forcing overtime against the Pioneers, Chisago Lakes eventually fell short 12-11 on Tuesday, April 22.
Max Bobrowski and Emmit Hahn had big first halves for the ‘Cats as they built a 7-3 lead and looked to be in the driver's seat.
But, the third quarter went sideways for the CL defense as the Pioneers racked up seven goals to just two for the ‘Cats in a fast and furious frame.
That turned CL’s four goal cushion into a one goal deficit, and they had to chase Hill down.
They did just that as Ben Kerkow added a goal, as well as another tally from Bobrowski.
But once it went to overtime, Hill-Murray, who had dominated the possession most of the game, corralled a faceoff and snuck a shot by CL goalie Dominic Derocker, giving the win to the Pioneers.
Bobrowski had five goals in total for CL, Hahn had three, Kerkow had two and Landon Kerkow added one goal and two assists.
Derocker played fantastic on the night, facing 30 shots from the Pioneers and allowing 12 goals for a .600 save percentage.
Jackson Murphy was the star for Hill, scoring a game-high six goals.
Chisago Lakes 11, Duluth 10
Derocker was once again spectacular, as he faced 32 shots and made 22 saves as the catalyst for a CL win over Duluth, who has been a thorn in the ‘Cats side for the last few years.
Jake Haseltine had four goals for the CL offense, Ben Kerkow had three goals and four assists and Bobrowski and Landon Kerkow each scored a pair of goals to help propel the ‘Cats to the 11-10 victory.
Chisago Lakes took on Rogers earlier in the week and will host Big Lake/Princeton on Thursday, May 1 before an away showdown against big school Minnetonka on Saturday, May 3 at Minnetonka High School.
