Applying for a property tax state refund?
Those taxpayers in Chisago County who qualify for a property tax refund from the State should have seen a letter by now, mailed out from the Auditor-Treasurer office explaining a correction to their tax statements. The amount of tax that filers for refunds need to insert in the application, may be the wrong number.
In many instances the replacement corrected figure, included in your letter, makes very little difference in what the state will refund. The figure provided to complete the refund form M1PR, was off in most cases, by a few cents. Still, if you opt to file an amended form, with the new figure, you have until February 15, 2029 to submit an updated refund application. (M1PRX)
The county Auditor Treasurer reminds readers that the incorrect amount only impacts agriculture and residential homestead property owners who are applying for the State refund.
Only those who qualify to apply for the refund, which is based on a scale tied to income, are affected.
The amount of tax owed shown on your property tax statement does not change.
The county is happy to take your questions— 651-213-8500.
