Section 7AA True Team Meet
The Wildcat girls won the Section 7AA True Team Tournament. The Wildcat boys finished second on their side. The tournament was held on Tuesday, May 6 at Cloquet High School.
The difference between a True Team meet and a regular track meet has to do with scoring. In a regular high school track meet, only the first few finishers in each event score points for their team. But in a True Team meet, every athlete who finishes an event is awarded points. So, for example, a fifth place finish counts nearly as much as a second place finish.
Girls
The biggest point getter for the Wildcat girls was Ava Bringgold, who came in fifth in the 200-meter dash, second in both the 100 meter hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles, and won the high jump. Other top contributors were Annika Hall, who finished second in both the 1600 meter run and the 3200 meter run; Bene Smith, who was seventh in the 100 meter dash, sixth in the two hundred meter dash, third in the pole vault and fourth in the long jump; the 4x800 meter relay team, who won their event; and Madison Eagle, who won the discus and came in fourth in the shotput. Kendra Warren finished second in the triple jump, and McKaylie Malek came in second in the 110 hurdles.
Boys
For the boys, the top point getter was Blake Siefert, who came in fourth in the high jump and third in the triple jump. Other athletes with high finishes in multiple events were Judah Appleby, fifth in the long jump and second in the triple jump; William Pearson, fifth in the shot put and sixth in the discus; Azariah Lees, fifth in the 100 meter hurdles and sixth in the 300 meter hurdles; and Edmond Morris, fourth in the 100 meter dash and fifth in the 200 meter dash.. All four relay teams contributed a lot of points – the 4x100 team came in third, the 4x200 team finished second, the 4x400 team was fourth, and the 4x800 team raced to a third-place finish. Top finishers in a single event include Biruk Killeen, who won the 1600 meter run; Everett Otte, sixth in the 100 meter hurdles; Marcello Cardoni, fourth in the shot put; Jacob Grabow, second in the high jump; Cohen Underhill, second in the long jump; and Nathaniel Bear and Trent Guth, who finished second and third, respectively, in the pole vault.
