The relocation of the historic Sunrise Schoolhouse last week, from its site north of Highway 95 in the Town of Sunrise, traveled east to the Almelund Threshing Show grounds under ideal weather conditions. The move along Highway 95 was observed by many.
Preservationists working behind the scenes to save the structure, held fundraisers and raffles, and with the cooperation of the Sunrise Township Supervisors the acquisition and relocation was made possible. Sunrise Township is headquartered in a newly built township hall. The threshing show will continue rehabilitation and improvements as the schoolhouse settles into its new spot on show grounds. There is information at the show website for donors who want to support this effort. The 1800s schoolhouse joins a collection of relocated historic buildings at the threshing show campus.
