She got her master’s degree in 1995 from St. Catherine’s University.
In 2000 she traveled to China with a friend who was adopting a baby. She saw the Great Wall and Forbidden City in Beijing before flying to Guangzhou. “It was in Guangzhou that I met so many wonderful Chinese people. I knew I needed to come back. I fell in love with China and her people.” When she returned home, she searched the web for dave’scafe.com and applied to several schools in Guangdong to teach English. She chose Peizheng Commercial College outside of Huadu for the 2000-2001 school year. But she wanted the city life of Guangzhou and chose Alcanta for her 2001-2003 school years. She also worked in many primary and business schools part-time before going to Southeast Institute of Software Engineering for a year. She returned home in 2004.
Her love of adventure took her many places in China and Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Burma, Nepal, and Tibet. “Everywhere I traveled, the people have been very nice. I don’t think anyone can surpass the Chinese for friendliness and hospitality.”
Her hobbies were photography and collage art where she won many awards in regional art shows. She attended workshops in British Columbia and Upper New York State to learn new techniques. The last 20 years, she repurposed and painted furniture to sell.
